Spike’s arrival immediately sparks tremendous fear as a result of Diplo and his classmates believing that T-Rexes “ate EVERYONE”. When no one wants to sit next to Spike, Diplo’s friend Mina helps him settle in and they soon strike up a friendship, which leaves Diplo feeling left out, especially when he doesn’t have a partner for the three-legged race.
In the wake of a high-emotion confrontation with Mina, Diplo’s mum explains that he’s feeling jealous, and Mina was actually acting out of kindness. Cue a beautiful scene of apology and reconciliation before the book rounds off with a practical “gratitude exercise” from Diplo’s mum.
