Mission – Loren Data Corp.

Most companies update their values slide every few years. We have operated Loren Data on the same set of principles for nearly four decades, for reasons that are worth setting down plainly.

B2B data exchange is critical infrastructure , and critical infrastructure deserves to be built and operated with the same seriousness as any other layer of the technology stack. Everything we do follows from that single premise.

In B2B infrastructure, continuous operating history is not a marketing talking point. It is evidence, and it is a material feature of the product. A network that has been running for three decades has been tested against conditions a newer platform has not yet seen: protocol transitions, trading partner consolidations, acquirer-of-acquirer cycles, catastrophic failures at customer sites, and every category of operational edge case that only surfaces with sufficient time and volume.

The institutional knowledge that comes out of running a network for that long does not appear on a feature comparison sheet. It shows up in how the platform behaves on the days when something unusual happens. That is why we lead with it.

Our business model is designed around a commitment that is unusual in the category: we do not compete with the builders, integrators, and platforms that operate on our network. We do not sell direct to the customers our customers serve. We do not ship the application-layer products our customers differentiate on. We operate the programmable infrastructure layer, we do it well, and we make it our job to make everything built on top of us more capable and more profitable.

This is not a tagline. It is the reason ISVs and integrators who could have built the network themselves, and in a few cases, tried to, continue to choose us instead. The arrangement gives them back the budget and engineering time that would otherwise disappear into the operational underside of their product. That is a deal that only works if both sides hold to it. We hold to it.

The information that flows between companies is, at its core, data. It does not know which protocol it was formatted in, which network carried it, or which vendor wrote the software that read it. Our job is to move that data with integrity, across whatever protocols our customers' customers happen to be using. Today that means X12, EDIFACT, AS2, SFTP, REST, and a growing set of AI-mediated message formats. Tomorrow it will mean something else.

We do not try to push our customers onto a preferred protocol, because pushing customers is not our business. Running the network is. That posture has kept Loren Data useful across four distinct eras of B2B technology, and it is the posture that will keep us useful across the next four.

A B2B network is paid to carry documents that move money. When it works, the customer does not think about it. When it fails, the customer thinks about nothing else. That asymmetry is the defining operating condition of this category, and we built the company around it before we built anything else.

The support team that backs the network has an average tenure measured in decades, not quarters. They have seen most of what can go wrong in this industry, and, equally important, they have built the operational practices that prevent most of it from staying wrong for long. The trust that accrues from that kind of consistency is, in our experience, the single hardest thing to replicate in B2B infrastructure. It is also the thing our customers tell us they value most.

Todd L Gould graduates from UCLA and, on the same day, establishes Loren Data as a custom business software development practice. The company will spend its first five years building enterprise systems for federal and commercial customers.

Loren Data is awarded a U.S. Air Force contract to develop the Electronic Commerce Purchasing System, an EDI interface to the Department of Defense's FACNET network. The work sets the operational foundation for everything that follows.

Loren Data delivers the first DoD-certified browser-based EDI system , enabling government contractors to interface directly with FACNET through a web browser. A category first, and the company's first product at national scale.

Launched in 1999, ECGrid is the first VAN designed from the outset for internet-era eCommerce Service Providers. Its first two customers, SPS Commerce and Energy Service Group , remain customers today. SPS launched its own growth story on top of ECGrid infrastructure. Twenty-seven years on, ECGrid is still the flagship network and the underlying fabric for everything Loren Data operates.

Launch of ECGridAS2 , the company's hosted AS2 service. Production-grade AS2 connectivity for customers whose trading partners had standardized on the protocol, operated entirely on Loren Data's infrastructure rather than at the customer's endpoint.

The ECGrid operating system is released as a publicly accessible API platform (now more than 500 endpoints) exposing the network's provisioning, routing, and delivery as a programmable control surface. The category's first serious "infrastructure-as-code" B2B offering.

ECGrid is registered as a global X.400 Administrative Management Domain , one of a small set of production X.400 networks operated by a U.S. company. The registration underwrites continued X.400 interoperability for customers in automotive, pharma, and defense supply chains that still depend on it.

Launch of a Transformation-as-a-Service offering that moves the hardest and most under-resourced work in B2B integration (mapping, translation, and continuous maintenance) off the customer's plate and onto ours.

Launch of Global Product Access (GPA) , the company's product content delivery network. GPA carries product catalog, content, and master data between brands, retailers, and marketplaces, using the same network, operating model, and governance as ECGrid and Simplify.

The network is positioned for an era of AI-mediated commerce and agentic transactions. The arrangement is the one we have always offered: we operate the backbone, so the companies we serve can build everything else.
