The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in a great form as they’ve won six of their last eight games overall and they will be aiming for a third straight win after sneaking past the Nets in a 96-94 road win on Thursday. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 27 points, 10 rebounds and three assists on 12 of 15 shooting, Anthony Edwards added 24 points while Rudy Gobert chipped in with 10 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 49 percent from the field and 10 of 21 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in trouble when they squandered a 17-point lead, but they kept their composure and held the Nets scoreless in the final 1:10 to come away with the narrow win on the road.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been in a real funk as they’ve lost six of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting routed by the Thunder in a 140-114 loss on Wednesday. Victor Wembenyama led the team with 24 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, Devin Vassell added 21 points with seven assists while Blake Wesley added 12 points and six assists. As a team, the Spurs shot 50 percent from the field and nine of 32 from the 3-point line, but they did little to stop the Thunder who got just about any shot they wanted to put up an embarrassing 140 points. Jeremy Sochan had a rough game of just two points on one of seven shooting.
The Timberwolves were lucky to escape with the narrow win against the lowly Nets in their last outing, but they probably won’t need much luck to get past this slumping Spurs team who they’ve already beaten twice this season. The Spurs are still capable off pulling off the upset, but the Timberwolves received a real scare in their last outing and I don’t think they’ll let it get close in this one. The Timberwolves should have more than enough firepower to get the win and cover on the road in this spot.
