The terrain is varied with rocky hills, seasonal water courses and thickly vegetated scrub. Illegal activities encountered here include snaring for the bushmeat trade, ivory poaching, livestock encroachment and cutting of trees for timber. The team is also tasked to protect the area surrounding the SWT Ithumba elephant Reintegration Unit. This report provides an overview of the activity of all our SWT/KWS Anti-Poaching Teams in September 2022, with a more detailed description of the Ithumba Team's operational activities in the period.
