During the month, the KWS/SWT Anti-Poaching Units lifted 1,046 snares and made 35 arrests, including 12 poachers and five offenders caught in possession of bushmeat. Other arrests included two charcoal burners, one livestock herder, five loggers, and six individuals for illegal entry into the parks. Over 42 kilograms of confiscated bushmeat — primarily hippo and dikdik — along with 33 carcasses were recovered from poachers and camps.
The teams also destroyed 18 charcoal kilns, seven charcoal camps, including the confiscation of five charcoal sacks. Forty harbors/hides/camps used by offenders in the parks were also found and destroyed.
In June, the teams also discovered four elephant carcasses and handed over 41 kilograms of ivory to the KWS for safekeeping.
