A material delay changes work-order sequence, capacity load and customer delivery. Machine downtime may affect cost, maintenance and quality. Because of those dependencies, manufacturing AI cannot consider one signal in isolation. It needs context from plans, actual execution, inventory, specifications and responsibilities across ERP and manufacturing records.
A useful system does not provide only a new sequence. It shows which material is available, which deadline becomes risky, where the bottleneck moves and which priority rule it uses. A planner can accept the proposal, change an assumption or reject the scenario. The decision and reason remain recorded so they can later be compared with the outcome.
Human confirmation is needed when a decision affects worker safety, product conformity, a material contractual commitment or an expensive, hard-to-reverse process change. The same applies when an event is rare, key data is missing or the model operates outside the scope on which it was evaluated. The boundary follows impact and context, not how modern the solution appears.
If work-order execution, downtime, scrap, material consumption and quality checks are not recorded on time, AI cannot explain results reliably. The first project often needs to improve data collection and identity before modelling. When the system can see plan, execution and consequence, the value of a recommendation can be measured.
The EU AI Act follows a risk-based approach; not every business AI system falls into the same category. A manufacturing use case requires a separate assessment of purpose, users, impact and other applicable rules. This article describes implementation controls and is not legal advice or a claim that a particular system belongs to a specific category.

In manufacturing, good AI improves decision quality and speed without hiding limitations, sources or accountability.
