All businesses need to be productive to be successful, and the key to that sustained productivity is a high-performance culture where employees are inclined to give discretionary effort - that 'above and beyond' output that really supercharges results.
As an employee, if you feel happy, valued and supported, you are far more likely to perform well and be productive. And that will translate into a successful career path with plenty of intrinsic motivation and satisfaction along the way. We've already shared five life hacks for productivity, but we wanted to share five more below.
1. Use the right technology
Make full use of the tech that your business offers - whether that's productivity software, office management systems, or CRM. The more you can develop your tech literacy, the far more effective, accurate and stress-free you will be in your work. Becoming a confident user of technology is a true 21st-century skill, and it's a great enabler for your career too.
2. Limit distractions
Whilst tech can be a great performance enabler, it can also be a great distractor if you don't manage it. Switch off phone notifications, close your email down when you're working, and find somewhere quiet to work when you need to focus. Don't procrastinate by browsing the internet - set yourself a timer and allocate a chunk of time to get key work done.
Modern work invariably means competing demands. So really focus on what is important - rather than what is simply urgent. Google the very-simple Eisenhower Matrix and make use of it when planning your day. It will help you to weed out the tasks which simply add no value, and allow you to get the most important stuff done.
4. Do the hard stuff first
For most people, the most productive time of the day is in the morning, when caffeine is flowing through their veins and they've - hopefully - had a good night's sleep and recharge! So do your hardest and most important jobs at the time of day when your energy is high, and then schedule the easier and less important tasks for when you feel more tired. For most of us, this tends to be in the middle of the afternoon.
5. Schedule some creative and fun time
No job should simply be about a to-do list. So reward your schedule with time for fun things too, whether that's a coffee and creative discussion with a colleague, a quick walk around the block in the sunshine, some research into something interesting or a bit of brainstorming with a peer from another department. Often these activities can result in interesting new ideas, new conclusions and even better overall results for your business - and your career!
