How to improve confidence and self esteem

Published on : 20th September 2022

Self-esteem is about how you feel about yourself and your ability to live up to your values. It's important because low self-esteem can lead to depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. You may have developed low self-esteem by comparing yourself to others or not feeling good enough in some areas of life. But there are ways you can start building confidence.

Practice mindfulness

The first step in improving your self-esteem and confidence is learning how to be more mindful, which involves being aware of what is going on around you. Mindfulness allows you to focus on the present moment, rather than worrying about the past or future, for example, to not worry about an upcoming interview. It also helps lessen other distracting thoughts that may get in the way of your ability to concentrate on what's right in front of you. Try and keep positive thought patterns and focus on the present.

Have a positive mindset

Having a positive mindset is the key to improving your self-esteem and confidence. Research has shown that people with a positive mindset have greater success in life than those who don't. A positive mindset can help you achieve your goals, especially within your career, and make you happier in general.

Think about what makes you happy, then do more of it! Do you like spending time with friends? Playing sports? Reading? Whatever floats your boat, make sure that activity is part of your daily routine. Also, try to be kinder towards yourself and others (especially when they need it most).

Practice daily gratitude

Being grateful for what you have can boost your self-worth. Acknowledging what you're thankful for can help you appreciate the good things in your life, which will make it easier to feel good about yourself overall. The next time you wake up or go to bed, think about three things that went well in your day and why they happened—not just what was wrong with them! Afterwards, reflect on how this exercise made you feel, did it increase your confidence? Or did it make no difference at all?
