There is no doubt that the job market is a crowded place now. This is especially true for a sector like technology which is getting more popular to work in with each passing year.
Of course, the recent COVID-19 pandemic has not helped in terms of the number of people looking for work. More people than ever seem to be active in the job market currently and this means stiff competition for each vacancy.
The key to success when job hunting, therefore, is standing out from the crowd. With many jobs seeing hundreds of applications submitted, this is really important. But how can you do this?
Focus on an awesome CV
Many jobs will still ask for a CV to be submitted as part of your application. The key to standing out, therefore, is making your CV truly eye-catching. Of course, it is essential to ensure any CV is well-written, concise and contains no mistakes. Your CV needs to really jump out at employers too if you are to stand out from the crowd. With this in mind, it is also worth looking at using unique, professional layouts to catch the eye.
Additional qualifications and experience help
To stand out in a crowded job market, showing employers you have additional skills and experience can really help. If for example, you were applying to work in a role coding with Python, letting them know you have learnt other languages like JavaScript will help distinguish you from other candidates.
Be sure to let employers know of any additional skills that might be relevant too. A role might not involve managing people to begin with but showing that you have previous experience of this could be useful, if it may grow to include this in future.
When trying to stand out in the crowded IT jobs market, it often pays to be flexible. This could be working hours which you may not usually fancy or showing you do not mind taking on additional tasks if needed. The bottom line is that being flexible shows that you are willing to put the business first and adapt to what is required. This will be welcomed by employers and help you to stick in their mind in a positive way.
