Cruise Travel Insurance | RAC WA

Whether you're cruising within Australia, in Europe or Asia, across the Pacific or around the world, consider cruise travel insurance. Then you can focus on everything your holiday has to offer, from stunning landscapes to new cultural experiences.

Compare our policies and choose the cover that suits your needs before embarking on your adventure.

When you add cruise cover to your travel insurance policy, it's important to choose the right option for your particular cruise.

Cover for river cruising is automatically included in your cover, so you don't need to select the cruise option. For international river cruising, medical evacuation and medical costs will be covered subject to the policy terms and conditions.

Please note that within Australia, medical costs aren't covered by your policy, as they're covered under Medicare. If you're not enrolled in Medicare, you may need to pay for these expenses out of pocket. Under this policy, you're responsible for covering any evacuation costs.

Please see the Combined Product Disclosure Statement (PDS)/Financial Services Guide (FSG)

For vessels departing from overseas ports - select the Cruise option when adding cruise cover to your travel policy.

For vessels departing from Australian ports and arriving at overseas ports - select the Cruise option when adding cruise cover to your travel policy.

For both, you'll also need to select each country where the cruise stops.

For vessels with medical facilities and trained medical staff on board – select the Australian cruise option when adding cruise cover to your travel policy. Then you’ll be covered for medical evacuation and medical costs while onboard. Please note that any medical treatment received in Australia is not covered by your policy, as it’s covered by Medicare. If you’re not enrolled in Medicare, you may need to pay for these expenses out of pocket.

For vessels without medical facilities and trained medical staff on board or for self-chartered vessels – select the Australia – domestic cover option when adding cruise cover to your travel policy. Please note that this policy doesn’t cover any medical treatment received on board or medical evacuation. Your dependants are included under your cover at no extra cost as long as they do not have any medical conditions that require assessment for cover consideration, as additional medical conditions cover may require an additional premium to be paid. If you choose the Cruise option, your dependants will be covered under the option as well.

If you have omitted to list your dependants, please contact us as soon as possible.

While cruise ships have doctors onboard, they may not be registered to practise in Australia. This means that medical evacuation and medical costs incurred while onboard may not be covered by Medicare.

Cover is provided for river cruising and ocean cruising regardless of whether you are cruising overseas or within Australia. A number of options are available subject to the terms, conditions and exclusions in the policy.

The definition of Cruise means an ocean voyage on a commercially operated vessel for more than one night. If you are travelling for one night or you are on a river cruise, you will automatically be covered under the policy without selecting the Cruise Option.

The policy cannot cover any medical expenses within Australia, so please check carefully if there are medical facilities onboard, and if so, whether Medicare applies.

Some cruise lines require you to provide travel insurance details, meaning you need to buy cruise cover before your departure. Check your cruise line's policies to see if you'll need to do this.

Even if it isn't required by your cruise line, you might consider taking out cruise cover soon after booking.

Certain policies can cover cancellation, lost deposits and financial default from the date of purchase, giving you added peace of mind as you plan your trip. All other benefits begin on the trip start date you provided when buying your policy.
