United States Senators Mark Begich (D-AK) and Mike Johanns (R-NE) have formed the General Aviation Caucus, and have written to their Senate colleagues encouraging their participation and membership in the caucus. The caucus is open to all members of the U.S. Senate despite party affiliation and committee assignments.
The purpose of the caucus is to bring Members of Congress and their staff together in support of general aviation by holding regular meetings on issues affecting the industry. Briefings will be held on issues such as the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization legislation and Climate Change legislation, among others. Currently, Senators Pat Roberts (R-KS), Sam Brownback (R-KS), and James Inhofe (R-OK) have joined the caucus.

NATA is pleased that Senators Begich and Johanns have launched this caucus to bring awareness to the general aviation industry. In May, the U.S. House of Representatives launched a general aviation caucus that now has 75 members. NATA looks forward to more Senators joining the caucus to enable the association to reach out and educate those members and staff on important issues, especially aviation security.
