Today, we at Sheldrick Wildlife Trust USA had the privilege to join your child’s classroom for a special lesson about African elephants and wildlife conservation. We discussed the threats elephants face, from habitat loss to poaching, and highlighted how our teams in Kenya are working to protect them. Our activities align with educational standards, ensuring that students not only engage with wildlife conservation but also meet curriculum goals.
Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is one of Africa’s oldest and most respected wildlife charities. Best known for its first-of-its-kind work rescuing, raising, and rewilding orphaned elephants and rhinos, the Trust operates across Kenya to preserve habitats, protect wildlife, and support the communities who live alongside them.
Elephants are very intelligent, self-aware, and can experience many of the same emotions as humans, including happiness, affection, and sadness.
There are an estimated 400,000 African Elephants remaining. The biggest threats to elephants are ivory poaching, habitat loss, and human–wildlife conflict.
Whether it's sharing what you learned, raising money, or supporting State bans on ivory - we can all make a positive difference for animals.
Want to further inspire your child’s love for elephant conservation? Here are a few ways they can make a difference for these remarkable animals!
Watch a young elephant grow up alongside your child! You will receive a digital welcome pack, along with monthly updates about your adoptee. Your adoption supports our Orphans’ Project, which has successfully raised more than 320 orphaned elephants to date.
From a bake sale to a sponsored run, a birthday donation drive to a car wash, there are so many ways to host a fundraiser for the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. ‘Change for Elephants,’ our child-focused fundraiser, is a great way for classrooms to make an impact: Students create an elephant-shaped collection jug, then collect spare change. We provide everything you need to get your fundraiser started!
From apparel to accessories, a children’s corner to a made-in-Kenya collection, the SWT USA shop has something for every Trust fan and elephant lover. Best of all, 100% of all proceeds from our sales support the lifesaving conservation work of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
As a non-profit, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust relies on donor support to continue its conservation legacy. Your donation supports the orphans of today and the habitats they will one day call home — securing a future for generations of elephants in the process.
