Entropy is the quiet undoing, the countercurrent to order and creation, and the main antagonist to the player. It seeps through from Rifts , dimensional cracks that form whenever Mote Fields are disturbed. From these Rifts, Entropy spreads out, causing any Structures to lose power and become dormant until the afflicted area is cleared. If the player happens to be standing under Entropy miasma, the player's mana will drain into the void.
While Entropy spreads around the Great Portal at the start of the game, it does not always generate from there. Instead, Entropy has some rules that it must follow before it can spread.
There are a few ways of "combating" Entropy in MoteMancer. Note that this is different from combating against Rifts. You can combat Entropy without harming Rifts while also doing the reverse.
The first method is through Spells in the form of Riptide and Meteor Swarm . Riptide is the earliest method you'll gain access to in a normal playthrough, both of these spells will clear Entropy, but not prevent its spread.
A more consistent approach is through Downpour Bastions and Incineration Spires . Downpour Bastions focus more on clearing Entropy, though an upgrade does allow it to eventually seal Rifts. The Incineration Spire is the opposite. It focuses primarily on sealing Rifts while a later upgrade allows it to clear nearby Entropy upon sealing a Rift.
Since Rifts and Entropy exist on all six planes at once, this also means that clearing Rifts and Entropy will also cleanse them from all six planes simultaneously, allowing players to set up defenses on whichever plane they choose.
Upon clearing Entropy and sealing Rifts, you gain Entropy-related research points, which unlocks various Entropy-related upgrades.
