CONTEST REWIND, revisiting contests from the past to breathe life back into inspirational contest entries that evoke emotions and teach us more than what is written on the pattern instruction sheets. Looking back into our contest archives I found a Sewing Bee Round 1 from 10 years ago, where members were making the latest trend, CULOTTES . For the 2016 Sewing Bee - Round 1 our participants were asked to sew shorts or capris. This was a popular contest with 104 members submitting entries and 58 pages of chatter on the forums managed by MVi14 .

Now it's time for the REWIND.
Let's check out 3 contestants that created Culottes :
JustineSewcountrychick 's culottes are made using Butterick 6178 and matching top using McCall's 8059
I spent a bit of time adjusting the 3 pleats on each side of the centers. I had to let them out some as they were straining at first. Pleats are tricky for me.

chesterewin 's short culottes were made using Carrie Culottes by Koerbs Brothers Stitch Designs
After remeasuring myself and the pattern pieces, I realized that I actually fit into the size L all around. The box pleats on the front and back bring in the hip area and the waistband is angled to cinch in slightly at the top.
shanny1001 's culottes were made using Simplicity 8092 OOP
I liked that it fit and I didn't have to do any adjustments.
